Blackrot is a necrotic disease that causes horrible disfigurement and usually death. It is often accompanied by glowing fungus-like growths that sprout from lesions around the body. At later stages, extremities of the body begin to turn blackish blue and rot away, hence the name 'Blackrot'.
A famous outbreak of the disease occurred in the village of Hillside, killing hundreds, before it was discovered that the outbreak was actually a planned attack by the Fleshripper, Mirrum. After he was caught, he was taken to Dunbar Fortress to be imprisoned.
