The second smaller species of anteater, tamanduas are respectively split into northern and southern species. Normally active during the night and spending the days hidden away in hollowed out trees. Tamanduas are arboreal by nature and skilled climbers. Using a prehensile tail to grip hold of branches and feeding on ants and termites. Although they will also feed on bees and beetles and in captivity they can be fed fruit and meat.
