The Carnival

Event

"Roll up! Roll up! One and All! Come and delight in the Carnival..."


Carnival's are nomadic fairs that travel from location to location.

Brightly coloured and lit by colourful lanterns, they always open at dusk and close a dawn to a flourish of fireworks.

The Big Top tent domintes the carnival with its many stalls surrounding it.

The smells of Candy Floss, popcorn, fried potatos, grilled meat and the sounds of Calliope Music, laughter and squeals of delight fill the air.

Every night at midnight a fine display of fireworks fills the sky above.

The "Carnies" dress in brightly coloured costumes. With the Ring Master the finest of all with their splendid Top Hat

D&D 5E: It costs 1 GP per person to enter and 1 GP for a roll of 10 tickets...

Legacy RPG: It costs 10 SS per person to enter and 10 SS for a roll of 10 tickets...


Attractions include...

Circus Big Top - Clowns, acrobats, animal acts, dancers, hoopers, firebreathers, jugglers. an amazing spectacle.

Food stalls selling: Candy floss, toffee apples, sausage in a bun, sweet popcorn, stewed peas and mint sauce, brandy snaps, fried potatoes, grilled meat sandwiches, candied nuts and flavoured ice cones. (D&D 5E: 1 CP per item, Legacy RPG: 1 SS per item).

Ring the Bell - a carnival classic, swing the hammer ring the bell DING! DC20 rings the Bell, a natural 20 knocks the bell off and a "carnie" has to repair it. 1 ticket per go.

Hook a Dragon - another classic carnival game. Use the stick to hook the duck DC20 Dexterity check. win a prize every time you hook a duck. 1 ticket for 3 goes.

Unicorn Ring Toss- toss the ring on the unicorn's horn, if you get 2 on the horn you win a prize all 3 and you win 2 prizes. DC20 Dexterity check. 1 ticket for 3 rings

Guess the Mouths - count the mouths on the gibbering mouther, DC20 intelligence check. Guess correctly and win a prize 1 ticket gets you 3 guesses.

Medusa Stare - stare at the medusa (it's an illusion, not a real one) and resist her gaze. DC16 Constitution check, the first one to blink loses. 1 ticket gets you 1 prize.

Plunging Pirate - Want to be insulted by the Impertiant Pirate? throw the balls at the bullseye whilst the Pirate insults you, 2 bullseyes get you a prize, 3 get you 2 prizes. 1 ticket gets you 3 balls.

Spot the Mimic - can you spot the mimic hidden amongst the items... DC20 Perception test to spot it!. spot it and win a prize. 1 ticket gets you 1 go.

Bunko Balls - spot the ball under the cup to win a prize. DC18 Perception or Insight check to spot it to guess the location of the ball (its actually not under the cups its under his hat). 1 ticket gets you 2 guesses.

Walk the Plank - can you walk the plank and make it to the other end? DC 20 Acrobatics check to make it to the other side. If you make it you win a prize. 1 ticket per go.

Coconut Shy - can you knock the coconut off its stand? DC20 ranged attack to knock it off and win a Coconut!. 1 ticket gets you  3 goes.

Spin and Win - spin the wheel and win a prize! Roll a D20 on a 1, 10 or 20 and win a prize, on an odd number you lose,  on an even number spin again... 1 ticket gets you 3 goes.

The Carousel - ride the beautiful hand-carved horse on the carousel. 1 ticket gets a 3-minute ride, wow how fast, DC14 constitution check not to be sick! 1 ticket 1 go.

Helter Skelter - climb the Helter Skelter and see the Carnival from the air, slide down on the sack provided round and round you go, WEEE!!!!! DC 14 Constitution Check not to be sick! 1 ticket 1 go.


Prizes won from the games are in fact golden vouchers that can be traded in at the Prize Stall.

1 golden voucher gets you a bag of candied sweets or a random carnival trinket.

2 golden vouchers get you a Bottle of Whimsical Wine, which once opened plays Circus Calliope music until finished.

3 golden vouchers get you a random magical prize Roll1D6

  1. a wizard's hand puppet - uses an action to move the puppet and cast a minor illusion, after 3 uses the puppet disappears in a puff of smoke.
  2. a toy spider - use an action and gain the benefit of spider climb for 10 minutes. It turns into a real spider and crawls away;
  3. small pack of pixie dust, sprinkle it on the target to give them a flying speed of 30' for 1 minute
  4. a pot of magic face paint, give you the disguise self spell for 1 hour when used.
  5. a wand with 8 charges, use 1 charge to cast Prestidigitation.
  6. a sparkler, once lit will create Dancing Lights for 1 minute.
