Road Trip

Tales of Yore

Tam sat on a slightly wonky chair in the corner of delapidated road side inn "The Gibbet". A cup of slightly vinegary ale sat in front of him. He was waiting for his companions to finally arrive, he hoped it would be sooner than later he didnt want to see if he could get a room for the night lookin gat the state of the place. The barkeep had been friendly enough but he had said it had been quiet on the road lately and they hadnt seen much footfall.

Half way down his cup the door opened and three travellers entered, sadly not who Tam had been waiting for. They looked around pointed to a table near the door and sat down, calling for service. By the time Tam had finished his cup and headed over to the bar, he saw the tyrio glancing at him and mutterin in hushed tones. Tam ignored them collected his cup after thanking the barkeep and asking if there was a room available to which was yes.

Tam headed back to his table as he turned to sit one of the trio had walked up behind him. "You a Road Warden?" said the stranger. Tam looked him up and down noting the chainlinks under the cloak and the blade hild at his side. "No fella just a traveller passing through" Tam replied in a calm voice. The grey eyed stranger said "Well if your a traveller then you need to pay a road tax" he leered at Tam and laughed, his companions had risen to join him and were glaring at Tam. Tam replied "I'll buy you a drink but I'm not a mug and wont be robbed". The stranger laughed and said "if you don't give me your coin pouch you wont be needing it, hand it over!". Tam sighed and bagan to put his cup down. The stranger lunged for him, Tam stepped forward bringing his assailant to an abrupt hal and then shoved him back the man flail his arms and crashed into his compatriots. Tam stepped back to see what would happen next.

The trio bellowed "Get him", Tam responded by kicking the knee of the nearest one to him who screamed at the unpleasant wet snap and fell to the ground. The other two rushed Tam, as they collided with him Tams head rand from a blow, he brought his elbow up and with a crunch mashed a nose flat, blood explodedd from it, stunning the second attacker the third pressed his attack and caught Tam sending Tam sprawling against the wall. The wind knocked from him he grabbed the nearest object, the wonky chair and swung it into his attacker. The chair shattered immediatly but it was enough to off balance him. Tam clenched his fist and punched as hard as he could, pain blossomed from his hand but it felled the attacker. The three attackers were down for now. Tam looked at the bar keep and apologised and said "I'll go it will only get worse if I don't" the barkeep nodded.

Tam grabbed his belongings and was almost of the door when he felt a sharp pain in his back, he spun and almost stumbled. The one with the broken nose was lowering a crossbow. Tam growled drew his broadsword and charged the crossbowman. In five steps and three swings of his blade his attackers all lay dead at his feet.

Tam took a breath and looked over at the bar, the barkeep stood open mouthed. "Don't worry, I'll clean up" said Tam. Reaching into his pouch Tam removed a small glass vial and drank, he felt a tingle in his back and then heard the bolt clatter ot the floor. He removed the bodies and mopped the floor whilst the barkeep poured salt on to the blood stains. "I've a cart out back we can go feed these brigands to the Drakes down by the river" said the barkeep. Tam frowned "These fuckers why it's been quiet?", the barkeep nodded.
