Windmill

Before the flood, a small steampunk village thrived in a low valley. A windmill large enough to fit into a city skyline loomed in the center of the town. The mill powered most if not all of the devices in it, AE systems, batteries, and various machines like smelters. The population of the town was thin, yet all members excelled in the field of knowledge. When the simulation began to crack and wane under pressure, the inhabitants attempted to warn their civilization.

A split began to form within the community, with half of the town beginning an exodus, and the other half choosing to stay in place as if the warnings were all hoaxes. For those who left, they attempted to take as much materials and resources as they could, no longer caring for the safety of those who would be staying. As turf wars began throughout the town, small groups of people slowly trickled away, reducing the total population of the town.

By the time the flooding had come, nobody was left in the town. While dozens of machines and constructs remained perfectly intact under the water, none of hem were truly powered. The windmill was dormant, no longer collecting power for the town yet none of its components were truly damaged beyond general foundation disrepair.

Within the controls of the mill, the power switch was pushed onto off. It had been shut off deliberately….?

That was all some time ago, now the windmill stays dormant above the newly raised waterline. A mysterious peddler of curios set up shop within its cracking foundation, selling odd goods that travelers may need. Other buildings, boats, and creatures have slowly found their way to the mill, surrounding the lone tower.

Some beings find themselves here after traveling dimensions, worlds, or simply coming back to life. Those beings began to call this place “spawn”…
