In the southeast portion of the city, at the intersection of two of the cities busiest streets sits
Mordan's Corner Bar, a rather unique location in Balic. Opened three years ago by
Mordan, a caravan master turned brewmaster, the Corner Bar is a two story structure
covered in windows. It has become one of the most popular establishment in Balic,
especially so with traveling merchants.
The Mordan has two floors. The first has a smooth yellow stone floor. Nearest the door (in
the north side) is where the floor is lowest, and a dozen paces into the establishment, a
step rises up a dozen to the bar. Tables cover both the lower and upper sections. At the
end farthest from the door is a bar shaped like an elongated, flat S that runs west to east.
Sturdy stools line in front of the bar which is populated by those in for a quick drink.
On the second floor is a slightly quieter section of dining. By slightly, usually those too
drunk to climb that stairs remain on the first floor, closer to the bar. The second floor is a
third smaller than the first, and customers can look down upon the patrons below
Behind the bar are the ale barrels. Mordan’s serves three kinds of specialty ale, as well as
mead and wine. Beyond the bar is the kitchen as well as the large brewing buckets –
Mordan owns most of the block for his business with the ale brewing section taking almost
half of the space he owns. Dwarves and sturdy humans serve as barrel runners, bringing a
fresh supply of ale when the patrons have drained one.
The manager of Mordan is Elise, a comely human female who is always impeciably
dressed. It’s rumored she a mage of some kind, but no one has ever seen her cast a spell.
But the threat remains that if things get out of hand, a spell or two just might be headed
the offenders way. In addition to the possible threat of magic, a dozen bouncers are ready
to break up any brouhaha that happens. The lead bouncer is Kelmvis, an ex-bodyguard of
Mordan’s who faithfully server the trader for years before the merchant settled down to
establish his business.
The owner of the establishment, Mordan, occasionally appears for a bit to see how the bar
is being run, and to get some ideas from the patrons. The old merchant firmly believes that
happy customers are return customers. He is a bit short and slightly portly from lack of
exercise and from trying too many of the brewmasters recipes.
