for their elders. To ease the aged into the spirit world, the
city-state sponsors a home where old people can spend
their final days in peace, comfort, and meditation. The
honor of entering the Garden of Benevolence is bestowed
only upon members of the proper castes, of course; elderly
citizens of lesser status must fend for themselves.
