The sorcerer-queen Abalach-Re does not tolerate any rival religious institutions but this Temple of Fire dedicated to the ‘Great Dragon’ is so integral to the culture of the cities warrior class that she would have displeased her greatest warriors if she had demolished it as she did so many others. She also suspects that somewhere in the thousands of scrolls that linger in its cellar library there may be some arcane secret that could help her metamorphosise into a dragon of unimaginable power. As a result, she has funded several Saddhus to work their way through the scrolls recording their contents. Outside, above the door of the temple, a gargoyle of a stone dragon’s head thrust out and upon its neck looking down on all who enter is a Saddhu constantly chanting a mantra focused on the elemental fires of the planes beyond the physical world of Athas.
