This is the Dark Seldarine version, for the Seldarine version see - War of the Seldarine

The Seldarine Revolution was a rebellion fought by Araushnee and the coalition of Dark Seldarine against Corellon and his court, which is said to have been fought to stop the Desolate Cascade.

Legends suggest Araushnee's troubles date back to before Aurora was even complete, when the Darkness, tried to consume it. Corellon admitted the Darkness was of ancient creation, something that could not be destroyed and even if it could, he believed that the matters of the Material Plane were not to be interfered. Eventually when the Desolate Cascade began to ravage Aurora, Araushnee began to wonder, if the gods were given the divine right to create the Material Plane, why not the right to defend it? She argued with her husband but he would not budge. Eventually she had enough.

Her plan was to subdue her husband by imbuing a prison in the Darkness. If it could not be destroyed, maybe it could be controlled. Traveling to the deepest depths of the Underdark and the Abyss, she did just that. The darkness took over her, transforming into a powerhouse of passion and power, a half tanar'ri.

In her new form, and plan set in motion, Araushnee's next move was to gather a coalition of gods in who also disagreed with Corellon's in-action, forming an army to conduct her plan. The coalition itself was organized, but she put all of her confidence in to her daughter, Eilistraee. Her true plan was to subdue Corellon during the battle by a debilitating shot by Eilistraee. According to this plan, the special arrow Araushnee conjured out of the Darkness could completely ensnared Corellon.

Before the attack by the coalition was ready, Sehanine found out about Araushnee's betrayal, but Araushnee struck first and imprisoned her with the help of her son Vhaeraun. Together, they also made sure that Eilistraee would find and deliver the arrow to Corellon, and that she would be in his vicinity during the battle.

Once the battle started, Araushnee's plan almost went as she expected, supported even further by Ghaunadaur's entrance. When Vhaeraun charged Corellon, who had been immobilized by Ghaunadaur, Eilistraee swiftly fired the arrow at her father, but was able to block the projectile towards Araushnee, nearly trapping her instead. The coalition began to retreat, but Araushnee allowed the Darkness to overtake her instincts. She tried to finish Corellon herself instead of capturing him. However, Sehanine had managed to break out from Vhaeraun's prison and was able to stop Araushnee's dagger from plunging into Corellon's chest.

After the battle, a trial was called in. Many Seldarine gods were exiled, becoming the Dark Seldarine. Araushnee meanwhile was stripped of all but a sliver of her divinity and transformed into a tanar'ri with the form of a giant spider. Corellon could not bring himself to destroy her, and instead banished her to the Abyss, bidding her to join the darkness she had come to resemble. Furious for her defeat, she made one last attempt on her lover's life, but was thwarted and bested by her husband. Despite all, he still loved her and still could not bring himself to finish her off, allowing her to escape into the opened portal into the realm of darkness.

After her exile, Araushnee took the name "Lolth". She conquered a realm of the Abyss, the Demonweb Pits, for herself. Lolth was initially opposed by Kiaransalee, an elven goddess whom she swiftly subjugated, and Ghaunadaur, with whom she had a longer conflict. He tried to subsume her, but failed, and in his rage robbed his followers of their intellect. It also downsized his follower base and his power with it, thus allowing Lolth to emerge victorious.

After securing control over her new realm, she then took control of the Underdark to watch over the elves that escaped there. Rather then abandoning them like her husband, Araushnee sought to help these lost elves by embracing the power of the Underdark. She would become known as the Spider Queen, using her new found power to transform the Underdark elves in to drow, the Netherii.
