Gliese (Union)

Gliese 667 Cc or later Union is the nearest habitable extrasolar planet, or exoplanet from Earth, just 23.6 light years away. It orbits around a star Gliese 667 C that is itself a member of the Gliese 667 triple star system.

Gliese 667Cc has a year only 28 days long.

Gliese 667 Cc receives 90% of the light Earth does; however, much of that electromagnetic radiation is in the invisible infrared light part of the spectrum. In fact, taking into account solely the star's visual luminosity, the planet actually only receives 20% of the visible light Earth does.

Gliese 667Cc is said to be one of the most physically similar known exoplanets to Earth. Gliese 667 Cc is similar in size to Earth with a minimum mass of about 3.8 Earth masses.

It is a little bit warmer as it sits slightly closer to the "hot" inner edge of the habitable zone than Earth.

A manned mission arrived from earth, this was a joint UEN/ATLAN venture.

The first UN ship arrives via a RipGate transmission and the building of the Gleise RipGate was done to enable 2 way transmissions from Earth to Gleise.

Gliese became the first human extra-solar colony. Due to the nature of the planet humans have to reside in Arcologies to protect them from the Solar radiation. The primary arcology is named Weskler after the original scientist that discovered the exoplanet.

ATLAN placed a Habitat cylinder in orbit “G-Hab”, this was later renamed to Union Station.

Union Navy set up a base of operations and the UMC was founded on Gleise, to help with colonial issues. Later this transferred to Union Station.

Gliese also has the only RipGate that is keyed for Earth and is heavily guarded.

Gliese is renamed Union after the Earth falls to the Volk.
