Entry.093 - The Duty of Brothers

Waking up rather exhausted and haunted by nightmares, Jeff and Flo recognize they might have been cursed by the Mediator in the battle the day before. While Bruri further investigates the captured Fenris Melonheed in the Undercork prison, Syllas goes to the Taesi Embassy, beginning the training of some half elves in need of guidance.

The rest of the group travels to the Atheneum Collective, the library where Archivist Liman, a simulacrum of Lorekeeper Amon, enables a meeting with the real Amon. Information is exchanged once more between the lorekeeper and the IRA. Hints from the left over paperwork of the mediator are revealed to contain an important target - Archmage Cassius Caecilianus of the Candlekeep - who may hold a key object to the prison of the last member of the Hand of Morlin, Ajasi.

Amon tells of his failed adventure to the ruins of Dreya, where he was able to secure the titan egg of "his mother", which could be used to kill or control a feral titan called Tharascon that was banished away in the earliest centuries of Drimea. Unfortunately, Amon was "killed" in a trap by Abraxas, which did not rid the mysteriously rebirthed Amon from the world, altough the enemy now has the former body of the lorekeeper.

Amon also reveals his concerns for the plans of his sister Cindra, the masked woman that once gave Flo and Jeff the Wyvern Key to the Room of Many Doors. She is sending out a group of travelers seeking the Titan Tyrar in the Valley of the Dead in order for Tyrar to lift the Forbidden Mist - that he apparently formed himself a long time ago - to conceal the location of the island Avalon that the Hand of Morlin seeks. Amon is conflicted whether this would play into the hands of Morlin - or enable others to disrupt their plans. The players tend to see this as an opportunity instead of another problem.

In an attempt to lift the curse on Jeff, Amon - again - dispells a dormant enchantment affecting Jeff who suddenly unlocks a modified memory of him being in the prison cell of Leylith days ago, where Shaevera must have manipulated him into wrongly believing that Leylith is still in capture, enabling the jailor to gather the groups insights about a certain fog shrouded island.

Afterwards, the group moves to the Temple of the Ravenmother near the Undercork, where they successfully bend the truth enough to make the priests believe that brother Alimaer, Brother Jeff and Brother Rolf (aka Flo) - fellow believers in the Ravenmother - are here to gain the benefits of a membership. A funeral is arranged in three days, curses are being lifted. As payment for the services of the temple, the group accepts a quest to check on the Northern Temple of the Ravenmother that is conveniently near their chosen next travel destination. The priests of the northern temple have broken contact a week earlier and no messenger raven has arrived since then. Apparently, the clerics there are in the process of producing an antidote for the Grey Plague that broke out again in the Colonies Beyond.

On their way back, they meet Bruri again, telling of the mediators nature - a Rakshasa, a devil that will eventually return to the prime material plane to take their vengeance. Interrogating Fenris also revealed his pact with another devil inside a certain Casino that can only be entered with a one-sided coin. Like the coin from Fenris that was transformed into his powerful axe - that can take possession of his mind and control him to do things for the mediator like beheading children - which is why Fenris pleaded the group to kill him.

In the evening, the group prepares for the arrival of Silent Pete, the brother of the girl that has died in their very home. After cleaning and mostly quietly processing the terrible events of the past day, a knock on the door initiates a very uncomfortable conversation with Pete. The players tell him most of the story, and also that they will not be able to attend the funeral because they will travel to the north tomorrow...
