Entry.146-147 - The Battle For Janna

Before the dust of the last encounter can settle, acid starts to drip from the ceiling. As you pick up Happy's hammer and his de-petrified mother figure Liva Silverspoon, a wall segment rushes down just barely missing you, but separating Florian and Happy from Egbert. While Egbert teleport himself to the temple of Zios' Blessing, you others escape the acid spray into the room you were coming from.

Meanwhile, Drem starts to realize that the girl that was decapitated in front of him might not have been Janna, but an illusion or some other trick. He investigates more of the candle-lit room, finding a heavily trapped corridor that he decides to avoid. Instead, he starts hammering against the wall segment to the next room, where Happy and Florian together with Liva only become aware of Drem when Happy sends him a message.

Not too far away, Egbert assembles some members of the temple to call for reinforcements. He stops in surprise as he sees Happy's mentor Liva come out of the temple building, offering aid for the rest of your group. Together, Egbert and Liva make their way to the rest of you.

Just as Happy decides to bash in the wall that separates him from Drem, the doppelgänger Liva attempts to stab Happy in the heart, but ultimately missing. He turns into the shadow shrouded figure of Ezekiel before he phases into another wall. After some discussion, Happy continues to break open the wall towards the candle-lit room, creating a hole just big enough for Drem to slide through, but not without some fireballs being thrown from seemingly out of nowhere, as well as more stab attempts by Ezekiel.

You escape the damned building and meet up again with Drem and Liva, deciding what to do now. One of Jeff's cut off and rotting hands is given to you by a confused homeless person, along with a message that "she is still down there, if you leave now she will die". Considering your options, you heal up a bit and then delve back down into the obvious trap laid out by Ezekiel and the shapeshifting creatures hired by the Mediator.

A secret passage behind the walls of the rooms you ventured before is found, and while you crawl through the tight space, along partially trapped corridors and fireball-friendly  chokepoints, you eventually are led to a big room that you can just reach before the walls behind you slam close. Knowing that reinforcements from the candlekeep and city guard will come soon, you are left with little choice as past members of the Inconvenience Removal Agency demand you to stand down and be imprisoned until Morlin's plans for the world have been successful. The alternative is to fight your way out of the (again) trapped and fireball-friendly hall you find yourself in. Along the walls, multiple tiefling children are lined up, all looking like Janna.

The inevitable combat breaks out, and while a fake Bruri and Syllas fire from a safe vantage point, fake Jeff and fake Flo engage you in melee. Throughout the encounter, traps are triggered, exploding additional fireballs and sticky surfaces. Most of the kidnapped children die in the various area effects, one of them seeming to be the real Janna. And just as one of the frog-like creatures that impersonate your friends threatens you to cut off Janna's head, Egbert successfully casts Feeblemind on him, squashing his mental capabilities into that of a regular frog.
