Laat Golz stands as a towering bastion of defense, its colossal walls etched with the weight of centuries, built to endure the horrors emanating from the Scar of Perdition. The city, founded in the ashes of the Diathan War, is considered one of the final cities to survive the devastation of that conflict, earning its grim title as the “last barrier” between the Scar and the rest of the Continent of Dearmad. Laat Golz remains a fortress both physically and in spirit, a place where duty and vigilance are a way of life.
The city is vast, its walls extending like unyielding iron, manned at all times by soldiers who are ever-watchful for incursions from the cursed wasteland. Each inch of the city is fortified, from the battlements above to the heavily secured gates at every major entrance. Soldiers patrol the streets in unending shifts, and there is a pervasive sense of martial law, though the residents have long since grown accustomed to it.
The Scar of Perdition, the city’s eternal threat, looms just beyond. This forsaken land, scarred by the Diathan War, stretches for miles, an expanse of dark, cracked terrain punctuated by giant curved spiked towers of earthen stone that seem to pierce the sky. It is said that these towers were formed from the very bones of the earth itself, twisted by the magic unleashed during the war. The land is cursed, and the beasts that roam there are grotesque and twisted by the corruption that taints every inch of the Scar. The heart of this wasteland is a dark lake, an eerie body of water surrounded by trees with blood-red leaves, their roots drinking in the cursed soil.
Laat Golz is divided into four sections, each known as a "Corner" — North, East, South, and West — with each area serving a distinct purpose. The North Corner is home to the city’s artisans and trade, a marketplace where weapons, armor, and supplies are forged and traded to maintain the city’s defense. The East Corner is largely residential, where the soldiers and their families live. The South Corner houses the religious and arcane institutions, those tasked with researching the Scar and keeping its dark magic at bay. The West Corner is where outsiders and travelers seeking refuge or mercenary work may dwell, under heavy watch.
At the heart of Laat Golz stands the Kruziik Hofkahsejun, the Ancient Palace. A towering fortress of stone and steel, it serves as the headquarters of the city's military forces and houses the high command. The Kruziik Hofkahsejun also doubles as the city's primary training grounds, where new recruits are forged into soldiers to defend against the monstrosities that often crawl forth from the Scar. Its halls echo with the clash of steel and the shouts of drill sergeants, a constant reminder of the city’s singular purpose: survival.
Though the citizens of Laat Golz live in constant readiness for battle, they are proud of their city’s resilience. Each citizen, from the youngest child to the eldest elder, is taught the city's history and their role in its defense. The city has stood firm against the horrors of the Scar for generations, a beacon of defiance against the darkness that threatens to swallow the world.
