Description:
Highland Wolves are large, muscular predators with thick, gray or tawny coats that help them blend into the rocky terrain of the mountains surrounding the Asparalo Grasslands. They have sharp, yellow eyes and powerful jaws designed for taking down large prey. Their thick fur protects them from the cold winds of higher altitudes, while their long legs make them agile on steep and uneven terrain.
Habitat:
Highland Wolves primarily inhabit the high mountain ranges bordering the Asparalo Grasslands, but they often descend to the grasslands in search of food. They prefer rocky outcroppings, dense mountain forests, and the high plains where they can find shelter and vantage points to spot prey. In winter, they travel lower into the grasslands to avoid the deep snows of the mountains.
Behavior:
Highland Wolves are highly social animals, living and hunting in tight-knit packs led by an alpha pair. They are skilled hunters, often targeting large herbivores like Plains Bison and Dusk Deer. The wolves are known for their cooperative hunting strategies, using the terrain to ambush prey and tire it out. While fierce predators, they are also cautious and observant, rarely attacking unless they are sure of success. They communicate using howls and body language, strengthening pack bonds and coordinating hunts. Highland Wolves are territorial and will fiercely defend their hunting grounds from rival packs or other predators.
