Marsh Hares are small, nimble creatures with soft, dark brown or gray fur that helps them blend into the marshy grasslands and surrounding vegetation. They have long ears, slightly shorter than those of typical hares, and their large, sharp eyes allow them to detect predators from a distance. Their strong hind legs make them excellent jumpers, allowing for quick escapes.
Habitat:
Marsh Hares thrive in the damp, grassy areas of the Asparalo Grasslands, especially near riverbanks and marshy patches where the vegetation is thick. They build their burrows in the soft ground close to water sources, making it easy to hide from predators. These areas provide them with plenty of food, including grasses, herbs, and small plants.
Behavior:
Marsh Hares are primarily nocturnal, becoming most active at dusk and dawn when the grasslands offer cover in the twilight. They are solitary but can be seen foraging in small groups, particularly in areas with abundant food. Quick and cautious, they rely on their agility and ability to blend into their surroundings to avoid predators like hawks and foxes. If threatened, they will leap into the safety of dense grass or burrows. Their ability to move silently through marshy terrain is key to their survival.
