Born in 1823 in a small, nothing town in what would become Texas Cesar was the middle child of a large family. They farmed, they raised chickens, they raised some cattle, they raised pigs and goats. The family attended mass every Sunday where Cesar would work on Saturday and early Sunday in preparation for the sermon.
The local priest taught him to read and write
