Born and raised in French Guiana, Philip always wanted more than what he had as the son of a poor plantation worker.
He had very little going for him with no education, no contacts, and no money so he used what he had.. himself. He joined the French Foreign Legion when he was 17 and was soon deep in various minor conflicts. He showed resourcefulness, bravery, and leadership so he quickly rose in the ranks eventually becoming a lieutenant.
Then, WW1 erupted and he was deployed along the front lines where he barely survived an artillery attack. His face was almost destroyed, as was his body, so his road to recovery was slow.
A young nurse, Sophia Delaroux, oversaw much of his recovery and his eventual discharge from the military and hospital.
Philip continued to convalesce at a hospice where he withdrew from the other patients and spent the bulk of his time with the various farm animals that kept the sanitarium supplied with milk, eggs, and meat.
He spent two years helping to care for the various creatures as his mind healed slower than his body. It was here that he was embraced.
A Gangrel saw the care he had for the animals and wished to preserve the man as so many others treated animals as an after thought.
