1) fallout from the rivalry between drug smuggling operations escalated after the bloody feud on the Sunset Isles when prominent members of the local Mafia, Tong, Yakuza, and Medillin cartel were killed. Marcus "Tuna" Alario, reputed to be a member of the Gambino crime family, was gunned down at a poker game along with several of his associates. Fung Jing Gung "Nicky", reputed to be a member of the Shadow Tong syndicate out of New York, was found hanging by his feet with his throat slit and an exchange of gunfire left several of his gang dead on the street. Masato Shibusawa, a suspected member of the Yakuza, was shot in his car. Hector "Boots" Ayala was killed when a gas main in his home exploded. Both the Tongs and the Yakuza were recent additions to the city of Miami. The Sheriff's department is reaching out to the F.B.I. for assistance due to the nature of the killings.

2) The driver of the bus with the missing children has been found and is recovering at University of Miami Hospital. He was severely dehydrated, disorientated, and suffering from a number of wounds. Detectives have attempted to question the elderly man, but he has yet to be coherent enough to supply answers.

3) John Taturro has won the office of Union President of the dock workers guild in a landslide vote.

4) Vice President Walter Mondale is planning a goodwill visit in seven days to observe the continuing recovery efforts of Southern Florida after the devastation of the recent hurricane.
