Cathal meets Dr. Devon A. Lawrence and learns he is Laura van Vries sire. Cathal also learns that he and Dr. Calvin N. Hobbes are both blood bound to him and uses the pair of them to lure Laura to him.
Devon then forces her to choose one of them to dialberize, but the choice is interrupted by Simone Durond who crashes through the door and attacks both Laura and Devon. She grabs Cathal and rushes to safety, leaving Hobbes and Laura behind.
