It is time to elect a new Council of Captains, the group of three that rule the Jade Foxes. As warriors, you are represented by the Captain of the Blade (the ambassadors and negotiators are represented by the Captain of the Word, and the blacksmiths, cooks and other servants are represented by the Captain of the Hearth). Each of you will get a single vote for the new Captain. The previous Captain, the legendary dwarven barbarian Vangar Stonesmith has completed his third five-year term in office, so cannot stand again. The currently-declared candidates are as follows:
Masque - this mysterious elven rogue pledges to push the Jade Foxes to take more political assignments, particularly for House Cannith in Sharn. This will mean more morally dubious missions such as assassination and industrial espionage that might cause conflict with local law enforcement, but the pay should be better.
Turhan Ironheart - this veteran dwarf paladin believes that the Jade Foxes need to do more to help protect the common folk of the outlying towns and villages, and thus he wants to focus on expanding the number of outposts the Foxes have. This will result in more adventures outside Sharn protecting the innocent from bandits and wild creatures, but the increased cost of expanding the Foxes’ reach will mean that mission pay will be less.
Kendra Zodian - this youthful human wizard argues that the Jade Foxes don’t look after its members enough, and she wants to devote time to seeking out magical weapons and armour so that the warriors are better equipped and thus more likely to survive. This will mean more time searching through ancient ruins or doing jobs for legendary artificers; these additional missions wouldn’t be paid as there is no paying customer, but may result in better equipment.
Bolt - this stoic warforged ranger thinks that the Jade Foxes need to stand up for warforged rights more, by taking contracts against slavers and others who would treat the constructs as objects rather than sentient beings. Hopefully this will result in more warforged joining the ranks of the Jade Foxes.
Lilandrus Mardena - this drunken gnome bard believes that the Jade Foxes should concentrate on forging better relationships with the local brewers, so that the quality of ale in the Lusty Dryad’s Flagon is improved.
Cleaver Half-Tongue - this soft-spoken half-orc warlock believes that jade is not a flattering colour, and argues that the Jade Foxes should embrace pastel colours instead. She proposes a complete rebrand of the organisation.
In addition, if any of you wish to stand for the position you may do so; this will not affect your ability to function in the field; whilst some Captains prefer to retire from adventuring to focus on running the Jade Foxes, many in the past have delegated all of the leadership work apart from the monthly Council of Captains meeting and a few ceremonial duties, allowing them to continue adventuring.
In order to stand, you merely need to get another member of your team to second your nomination, and state your political platform to convince others to vote for you. If you have a political platform similar to an existing candidate, you may persuade or blackmail them into standing aside for you.
The successful Captain will replace their standard jade cloak with the Captain’s Cloak. This is a magical cloak. In addition to the standard jade colouring, the cloak has a gold trim. Captains also get served first at the Lusty Dryad’s Flagon, and get a private room in the Jade Fort’s barracks. On leaving the post, former Captains take the title Elder.
