Conversation between Rahl and Canton 999-01-20

'Rahl, good to see you again!' Canton looks dishevelled and has a manic look in his eyes. 'You wouldn't look much better if you'd been close to having your brains sucked out...". 'The good lady Felicia D'Cannith had us investigate why the Silent Stream mine had stopped shipping iron ore for the last 2 weeks. House D'Cannith being the makers are very protective of their raw materials. As winter is gripping Khorvaire we met her on a snowy day at the mine entrance two days horse ride from here. She wanted us to find out what had happened as there was no sign of life at the mine entrance and she also had this strange dust called lyrium that can be used to augment the warforged. It's rare and of unknown production. I have a crush on her but I don't think she does gnomes...' Canton sighs and looks into the distance.
'We entered the mines and found some expired gnomes with holes in their skulls and absent brains. We dispatched a huge centipede that was joined mid combat by a strange metal ingesting creature known as a Xorn. Kriv helpfully breathed fire over some nearby mushrooms that released spores, blinding him and Kraxor in the process! Fortunately our cleric of death saved the day. In the aftermath we figured out the dwarves were not killed by these creatures so ventured further into the mines. We eventually came to the sleeping quarters of the posthumous miners and found the above records on their notice board. The only way left to go was down a very deep pit.....'
After gracefully floating down the pit (courtesy of yours truly) we found ourselves confronted by an illithid(Brain smoothie loving psycho) and his pet red dragon! It seems the miners in their greed had disturbed an underground community of these dangerous nut jobs hence the production ceasing. We managed to dispatch the illithid all brains intact but noted the dragon was only a shell of it's former self having half of it's brains been ingested. We also found the source of lyrium. It's ground dragon scales and this majestic creature had been terribly mistreated by the miners and the brain sucker. Kraxor and Kriv, being kindred spirits, mercifully killed the dragon bringing an end to it's misery.
It seems masque is behind this unethical material production and was using iron ore from other mines to cover the production. Seems she didn't expect to stumble across an ancient mindflayer temple
