It is here, the great battle of our time. And I am afraid. The legions of Galifar have come to make our town a battleground. ‘The Last Stand of Odessa’, I overhead one legionnaire calling it. As if we were just a tale in a bard’s song!
Frendal swore that he saw King Magnus himself, but I think he’s making stuff up again. As if the King would leave Thronehold to come here! It’s not like Frendal knows what the King looks like anyway.
I haven’t told my wife, but I saw my smithy in ruins before I came down here. She has so little hope, how could I tell her that I don’t know how I will feed her when this is over?
We now just are waiting down in the tunnels beneath Tallran; at least we will be safe here.

The ground has shaking with the battle, and new passageways have opened up. Jerran has been exploring, and entertaining the children with tales of strange arcane machinery that he has found. Did we build our town on top of some ancient secret? Hotis weaves tales of old, and says Odessa comes because of the rakshasa rajahs that inhabited these lands millenia ago. I do not know what these words mean, but his voice is soothing at least.

I expect we will be down here for a long time. They bring the wounded legionnaires down here, so we get small snippets of the battle. Odessa has burned the northern half of the town. The Fourth Legion has been delayed because of an army coming from the east. But what sort of terrible creature would fight for Odessa? And why would they be interested in our little town?

I do not think I can survive much longer. The ground shook even more last night, and something must have been uncovered. The heat is becoming overwhelming. Why is it so hot down here?
