JF22. The Rise of Odessa

Completed

Continuing their journey under the ruins of Tallran (JF21. The Ruins of Tallran), the Jade Foxes found themselves in a large square room with several vents in the floor.  The door shut behind them, and the room started filling with poisonous gas.  Identifying marks on one of the other exits, the three rushed to it.  Canton Busby quickly identified the door was sealed with an arcane lock; with this knowledge Kraxor Tyraneroth was able to disable the arcane magic protecting the lock.  Eventually the three of them managed to pick the lock, and Kraxor Tyraneroth kicked the door open.

Beyond where they stood, voices could be heard.  Canton Busby took the form of Boras d'Cannith was headed around the corner, and found himself in a large cavern with several lava rivers running through it.  In the centre of the lava rivers was an island, and there four mages could be seen performing a ritual on a Resiliant Sphere that hovered in the centre of them.  Canton Busby strode up the nearest mage and struck up a conversation; eventually this distracted the mage enough that the Resiliant Sphere failed, revealing Odessa within.  Odessa immediately turned on the mages, destroying all bar one that managed to flee.

The battle was hard-fought; both Canton Busby and Kraxor Tyraneroth were knocked unconscious. Kraxor Tyraneroth's glaive of disruption (Soultaker) proved decisive as he landed radiant blow after blow. The magical support of Canton Busby (summoning black tentacles to constrain the beast, reviving Kraxor Tyraneroth and mass healing the whole party) and Rahl Morninglow (blessing Kraxor Tyraneroth and barraging Odessa from afar) was essential to the victory. Eventually the Jade Foxes were victorious, and the land of Eberron was free from the machinations of Boras d'Cannith.
