Erandis Vol

The Queen of Death
NPC

Named by the Wight as the leader of the Emerald Claw, the Queen of Death. Cleric Boyden was aware of the Queen of Death, but not any association to the name, Erandis Vol. As part of his religious studies, Cleric Boyden had come across the name though. Erandis was the last member of House Vol (the house from which the Blood of Vol religion gets its name): the destroyed thirteenth dragon-marked house, and house of the extinct Mark of Death. She was allegedly the daughter of an elf and dragon, born to unite the races, yet in the end they united to destroy her and the rest of House Vol. If she had been existing as a lich all this time, her power could be immense - especially due to her previously exhibiting the Mark of Death (although dragon-marks are known to be useless when belonging to undead).

Boyden's worries were amplified by his findings based on recent events: He examined the papers the Wighthad on his body, taken from the Tower of the Twelve libraries ( KA02. The Tower of the Twelve), and found they detailed research on the creation of a dragon-mark onto the body of a non-marked individual. He also revealed that the scriptures Coyle wanted from him (KA01. Bound, Gagged, and Blindfolded) were an ancient Sovereign Host text that contained (amongst other things) information on the potential merging of other planes with the Eberron plane through manifest zones. He summarised that:

  1. She could be attempting to bring back the Mark of Death.
  2. She could be attempting to merge Dollurh, the plane of death, with the mortal realm

As the Claw had failed in both tasks, it is possible Erandis had been stalled. However, if these things were true, then she would clearly need to be stopped.

General Yorin Thaurum tracked down Vol to the Lair of the Keeper in KA04. Into the Wastes. The party were called up for assistance. As suspected, Vol was performing a ritual in order to merge Dollurh and Eberron. In KA05. Worlds Collide / KA01-05. Epilogue, Thaurum managed to defeat Vol before the ritual was fully complete, thus only allowing some hellspawn to cross through into the Demon Wastes before closing the gate. However, before defeat, Vol did manage to complete her other aim - She created the Mark of Death on Thaurum, the first time a living being had this mark since Vol herself was living.

In her defeat, Vol would have regenerated at a new random location.
