My dearest Hale,

I thank you for the recent package.  My colleagues and I have been mulling over the artefacts that you have kindly donated, they will certainly make for some fascinating papers!  I will freely admit my own jealously of your situation, though of course my adventuring days are behind me now, and the Giant civilisation was never a particular speciality of mine.

I took the liberty of consulting with Professor Kanrei, whose expertise in linguistics is second-to-none.  He agrees with you that the plaque beneath the remains of the statue says something about a Leviathan, but more than this is difficult to say.  Was this a Giant code-word, or nickname for something or someone?  Perhaps one of the denizens of this island was significantly larger than his compatriots?  Or are they talking about a literal Leviathan, such as those that acted as servants of the Daelkyr?  And if so, what does that have to do with the statue itself, given that the legs that remain clearly indicate that it is humanoid?  These are interesting questions, but I’m afraid I have no answers for you at this time.

On another matter; I am delighted to say that Master Larrian ir'Morgrave has agreed that your doctorate work can start as soon as Cannith can spare you.  I strongly suspect his own lengthy studies on the civilisations of Xen’drik has predisposed him to like you, and he may even choose to tutor you himself.  I have already written to my dear old friend Felicia d’Cannith to explain how sparing you for a few years would be in the best interests of the House of Making.  I know that her semi-exile after that business with her brother-in-law a few years ago has meant that she has few reliable house members to call upon, but I’m sure that she will see the long-term benefit in continuing your education outweighs the inconvenience of losing a pair of hands for a few years.

Ever Your Friend and Mentor,

Professor Canton Busby
