Architectural Arcology was a subfield of Architecture. It is retroactively deemed the first era of the science of Arcology.
It was a mostly theoretical field until its first trials in application found an Architectural approach to be insufficient in scope, requiring inputs in equal measure from civil engineering, logistics, etc.
While its original intent included reduction of environmental impact, Architectural Arcology is given a separate name from Eco-Arcology due to rift of time and practice between the two. However, they can be considered two parts of the same movement, as their intent was the same.
Notable Architectural Arcologies:
- Arcosanti - not an arcology per se, but a demonstration of the principles in small scale. Considered an important point of study in Arcological curricula.
- Denver International Airport's Old Complex
- Raven Rock Mountain Complex's Site R
