Corporate Arcology is a movement within the science of Arcology (Science).
History
As the field of Arcology developed, wealthy corporations saw an opportunity to consolidate and streamline their holdings, as well as portray themselves as cutting-edge companies.
Employees of corporate headquarters were offered attractive room & board packages, as well as discounts for in-Arco amenities. This was a win-win, as it kept employee pay cycling back to the company, and kept the rising costs of living at bay for employees. Soon, Insiders spent most or all of their time in their home Arco, finding all their needs met.
The flipside (some would say "trap") to this arrangement was that residents often found themselves unable to leave, through a combination of an infantilized mindset and a sudden realization that they were deeply in debt to their employer due to rising costs and easy credit. As their leverage and other options disappeared, employees found their rights eroding, many of them suddenly Indentured or if they were lucky, becoming Citizen Employees.
Design
Corporate Arcologies are often distinct from other designs because they assume single private ownership. They may have public infrastructure integrated into them. The assumption of strict atomistic private property rights is built into their spatial design.
Aesthetics
Corporate Arcos tend to be aesthetically pleasing and diverse, but generally stick to conservative designs.
