Gary (Law Enforcement Agency)

Law Enforcement Agency

Gary is the law enforcement agency arm of Gary (Regime), the ruling regime of Gary (City-State). They enforce Gary (Legal Code).

History

Gary is derived from the Gary Free State Police. When Gary (City-State) declared its secession from Gary Free State, segments of the police force followed and reformed into The Gary Civil Protection Corps

Early Era (Gary Civil Protection Corps)

The GCPC took a hardline stance toward civil order from the beginning, seeing no alternative to managing an angry, desperate and overcrowded city. Strict curfews were enforced, and punishments were often enacted publicly as an example. The Corps' Commissioner participated in Townsend's frequent public rallies, stressing that public order was the first step toward either getting into Chicago via Citizenship Lottery, or forming a new society that would function happily on its own.

The GCPC engaged in a cycle of reprisals with locals, arguably creating more chaos than they prevented. But the city-state's encapsulation and insular control progressed to the point that residents eventually had little opportunity to get into trouble, as they were rarely un-surveilled. As this Panopticon society developed, Mayors regularly issued new decrees, demands and prohibitions that showed no signs of slowing down.

Late Era

As with all departments of Gary (Regime), there are no longer any permanent members of Gary. The work duties are assigned randomly via Gary (Economic System), and it is seen as no different from other work duties.

However, the algorithm for worker assignment is slightly varied for Gary. Workers are selected from different structures to reduce the chance of collusion and ensure any failure to enforce is punished as strictly as any other violation. Matchups between partners are varied enough to avoid the same pairing twice, as the eligible workforce is almost the entire population of the city.
