History

Gunnar is one of the lucky few who managed to secure a high-paying position and pay off his indenture to Swanstone Holdings. He worked for decades in their security department, as a take-charge leader of a crack squad of enforcers. He didn't relish the less-scrupulous parts of the job, but figured someone was going to step in to do them anyway. Whenever he had the opportunity, he'd do the right thing - only there wasn't always an opportunity.

For a while, he figured that if he can make it, anyone can. But during his retirement he's started to realize that he had a lot of advantages. 

Now he spends a lot of time reflecting on his choices and if they were worth it. He still takes work as a mercenary or security consultant when he'd like a rush or a payday, but he's secure enough to not really need the work. But there is a void clawing at him, a feeling that someday soon it will be too late for him to make something meaningful out of his life's work.

ALTERNATIVE: He's close to retirement but just needs one big haul to buy his contract out. He's been accruing PTO for years and is currently moonlighting while using it.

Personality

Gunnar's demeanor is gruff but professional, as he's used to being in charge and even enjoying some authority over his superiors due to the nature of his work. 

He does like to dress down though, often preferring a mixture of top-of-the line gear and casual clothing like Hawaiian shirts. He enjoys cigars, because why not.

Abilities

Gunnar has some minor genetic alterations and subtle cybernetic surgeries that have accorded him exceptional vitality even into his 70s. He's not in his prime anymore, but he doesn't move like an old man.

He has no psychic ability whatsoever, and was even a skeptic until he saw it with his own eyes.
