The Void is named so because it is mostly empty except for the mile-high trunks of Magnacedars, and whatever happens to be hanging off of them. This large empty space is the most active zone of atmospheric circulation, which occasionally leads to extremely high windspeeds.
Most trunk structures in the Void have only one exit to avoid a destructive wind tunnel effect unless specifically designed to handle it. Conktop or Branchtop structures must be built with wind shelter in mind, preferring round shapes and altitudes near the very top or bottom of the Void. Mid-void exposed structures do exist, but must be built with a sturdiness rivaling the trunk itself - generally, this means wood or stone brickwork.
