An ancient civilization whose demise appears to predate all extant races. The most visible remnant of the CC is its automated drone fleet, which to this day continues to construct inter-system warp gates according to an inscrutable blueprint and mysterious technology. There are scattered remnants of the civilization's artifacts throughout the galaxy, but no sign that any of its actual members survived - or even existed.

Drone Fleet

System of limited-AI drone fleet that is capable of FTL travel and self-replication. They automatically create gates between star systems that make long-distance travel possible for organic beings. Purpose and pattern isn't known, but they apparently pre-date any intelligent life that might have an answer. Samsari scientists confirm that they make use of the psychic plane for their organization and communication, but even that is not enough to explain how they work.

Their means of communication has not been deciphered for centuries.  They will always seek to disassemble the nearest source of materials to continue their work. Presumably at some point this process was directed by organic beings in order to preserve lives or important physical objects, but their creators are nowhere to be found. Most just avoid them while they're doing the work, and make use of the gates.

No one is entirely certain if the gates are *intended* as gates, or if that behavior is a byproduct of their true function. Some believe when the network is complete that the connections will have some sort of collective effect on whatever properties of reality they manipulate. The best guess for their purpose, if not as gateways, is that they're a means to reverse or stall the progression of universal entropy.
