A geneseed is a self-contained gene pool. Generally it is narrow enough to provide a predictable resulting population, but diverse enough that recombination leads to an immunologically robust and [non-inbred] population. Geneseeds are used in cloning labs to create an initial population that can then reproduce on its own.
