A Cartún is any character ubiquitous enough to survive civilizational downfall, gaining a new life as a retro-mythological canon spirit. Most cartunes had their primary material in broadcast or digital media, so when those disappeared the new understanding of the character was reassembled from scattered physical traces. The most ubiquitous examples were pirated merchandise. The most enduring were murals or high-quality memorabilia.

Cartunes are objects of worship for Cartunic Cults. Most traditions treat Cartunes as something short of a deity, and more of a spirit that occupies sacred artifacts or their reproductions.

The echoes of the cartunes' origins have been preserved somewhat. The first eight seasons of The Simpsons are recognizable in The Good Seasons, the litany of a large swathe of oral-culture syncretic traditions across the modern world.

Blingbob is a cartun more prevalent in the middle and southeast of North America. Blingbob represents prosperity, strength and whatever the fuck spongebob is about.

Tomanjeri is really popular in sub-Saharan Africa. Like, actually. Look it up
