A cartún (pl. cartunes) is any character ubiquitous enough to survive civilizational downfall, gaining a new life as a retro-mythological canon spirit. Most cartunes had their primary material in broadcast or digital media, so when those diasappeared the new understanding of the character was reassembled from scattered physical traces. The most ibiquitous examples were pirated merchandise. The most enduring were murals or high-quality memorabilia.
The echoes of the cartunes' origins have been preserved somewhat. The first eight seasons of The Simpsons are recognizeable in Los Buenos Episos, the litany of a large swathe of oral-culture syncretic traditions across Latin America.
Barsinso is a spiky-haired boy who represents leisure, revelry, and cynical but harmless mischief, especially against authority. He prohibits the having of cows. Many episos tell of him angering greater cartunes. Barsinso is canonically punished by his father, Omersinso. Barsinsoism is ubiquitous in the margins of Central & South America.
Blingbob is a cartun more prevalent in the middle and soitheast of North America. Blingbob represents prosperity, strength and whatever the fuck spongebob is about.
Tomanjeri is really popular in sub-Saharan Africa. Like, actually. Look it up
