Mascot Man (canonically, M. Ascot Mann) is the mathematically ideal mascot. He's an amalgam of all marketing mascot knowledge, a distillation of successful elements. He represents all products. He is perfectly inoffensive and devoid of character, devoid of humanity or expression other than a completely vacant smile. He is presumably human. It is unclear what he is supposed to be and whether he is supposed to be anything at all. He knows not what he sells, only that you must buy.
Mascot Man is the brainchild of an alliance of corporate marketing firms that wanted to create an "index fund" of investable marketing IPs, a brand that could advertise simply for the concept of participating in the economy in any way the consumer chose. A rising tide would raise all boats. All boards involved (entirely staffed by AI boardmembers) approved the creative direction as visionary, and so this thing was created without a single human having a hand in it. For a while, people were paid to dress as Mascot Man and encourage passers-by simply to buy things. Nothing in particular, just spend. No one involved was under the illusion that there was anything approaching human in the interaction. Mascot Mans were generally pitied as the worst dregs of capitalism until the job was fully automated.
