Disc Jockey (DJ) is one of the most demanding and stringently vetted academic degrees in history. Only a small elite are able to attain the title, and aspirants are held to extremely high standards by the community that consumes their music. DJs are highly respected but in a social sense are considered to be introverted eggheads who don't know how to have a good time. Most DJs hold multiple Doctorates before attaining this capstone level.
Being a proper DJ in the year 2420 requires deep interdisciplinary knowledge - getting a particular sound or sample requires knowledge of centuries of legacy systems and formats, tracking distribution chains through obscure data trails swept over time and again by history more tumultuous than we can envision. The guys who learned how to capture an entire sun into an energy cell had a pretty straightforward job compared to this.
