Avian

  PTAS

The Avians, scientifically known as Ptas, are a race with a unique homeland called Lunumia. While not all Lunumians are Ptas, every Pta has Lunumian ancestry. The appearance of Avians varies based on their family lineage, with some exhibiting strong bird-like features such as feathers and talons, while others may have only wings or a more humanoid appearance. However, due to hunting during the Conquests of Buon, it's become more common to see Avians with a human-like appearance adorned with feathers and talons. The genetic makeup of Avians is delicate, and their wings and other bird-like traits are easily affected by external factors. Despite this fragility, Avians are a resilient and intelligent race, capable of great feats of strength and agility.

Ability Score: Dexterity +2 Wisdom +1

Age: Avian bodies mature at the same wavelength as humans, however, their wings and bird features mature like birds, gaining you a toddler with wings thrice the size they have to grow into.

Alignment: Avians tend to gravitate to Neutral alignment.

Size: Avian's size depends on their bird, such as an Ostrich Birdman can grow to 9 feet with wings growing past maturity to accommodate for their size, however, weight also is distributed that way. Such as a ptas with dove genes will likely be 5'2 and around 80 pounds. Your size is large due to the wings.

Speed: 25 feet

Flight: You have a flying speed of 50 feet. To use this speed, you can’t be wearing medium or heavy armour, if are wearing them the speed is halved. Using flight can help you avoid opportunity attacks. Can fly longer distances depending on the context and DM approval. (Or out of combat) (such as flying up over a town or forest or maze etc).

Avians gain a separate 'Flight' modifier that stems from Strength. However, can have an advantage depending on Elemental Power.

  • You have a flying speed of 50 feet.
  • You cannot use this speed if you are wearing medium or heavy armour, unless you have a special ability or feature that allows you to do so.
  • While flying, you can move over obstacles and other creatures, and you are immune to difficult terrain and effects that would ground you, such as webs or entangle spells.
  • You can use your wings to help you make ranged attacks or spells, giving you an advantage on attack rolls against targets that are on the ground or have no flying speed.
  • Using flight can help you avoid opportunity attacks, but you are still vulnerable to attacks from ranged weapons or spells.
  • You can fly continuously for a number of minutes equal to your Constitution modifier (minimum 1 minute), after which you need to rest for a number of minutes equal to the amount of time you flew. For example, if you flew for 3 minutes, you need to rest for 3 minutes before you can fly again.
  • Your flight speed may be affected by your Elemental Power, if you have one. For example, if you have the power of Air, you may be able to fly faster or longer than other Avians. The exact effects of Elemental Powers may depend on the DM's discretion.

Flight Modifier:

  • You gain a Flight modifier equal to your Strength score, which represents your ability to manoeuvre and control your wings in flight.
  • You add this modifier to any ability checks or saving throws that involve flying or aerial movement, such as making a sudden turn or dodging an obstacle.
  • You also add this modifier to any attack rolls or damage rolls you make with a weapon or spell while flying, as long as the target is within your reach.
  • Your Flight modifier may be affected by your Elemental Power, if you have one. For example, if you have the power of Fire, your Flight modifier may be increased by your Charisma modifier instead of your Strength modifier. The exact effects of Elemental Powers may depend on your DM's discretion.

Religion: Avians tend to worship the God of Meteo, Vayu-Prakash, the Avians who worship him ask him to tend to the winds to keep them safe and see God as the one who directs them where they need to go.

Vision: If your Ptas stems from a Noctornual Bird species (Owls, Nighthawks etc) which have night vision, you have night vision. If your bird's breed is not nocturnal then no, you have Low-Light Vision. However, even with that, you may walk into the glass once in a while or tricked its night in a dark room. (Comedy)

Elemental Power: Avians are more likely to not have elemental Power.

Languages: Common, Pta, Language from Origin Country.

Names: Avians have two names. One of their origin country, and a 'song' in Pta. This song is usually a bird tune with a couple of beats the closest translation would be a whistle imitation in common. Families of Pta tend to combine their names in one beautiful song, big families tend to tune a name as part of a familial chorus.

Physical appearance:

The physical appearance of Ptas, also known as Avians, varies widely depending on their family lineage and the strength of their Pta blood. Generally speaking, Avians have a large pair of wings extending from their shoulder blades, with feathers in various colours and patterns that may change depending on their mood or environment. The size and shape of their wings can vary depending on their bird lineage, with some Avians having wings as small as a hummingbird's and others having wings as large as an ostrich's.

In addition to their wings, Avians may also exhibit other bird-like features such as talons, beaks, or feathers adorning their skin. The strength of these traits again depends on their family lineage, with some Avians being nearly indistinguishable from humans except for their wings, while others have more overt bird-like features such as a bird's head or beak.

Overall, the appearance of Avians is as diverse as the birds they descend from, with each individual being a unique combination of human and bird traits.

Cultural characteristics:

The culture of the Ptas is heavily influenced by their Lunumian heritage. Lunumia is a mountainous country that is isolated from the rest of the world, and the Ptas has developed a unique culture that reflects their close relationship with nature and their ancestral homeland.

The Ptas are a proud and honourable race, valuing strength, bravery, and loyalty above all else. They are known for their martial prowess and have a strong tradition of combat, with many Ptas choosing to become skilled warriors, hunters, or scouts. Despite their warlike nature, the Ptas also have a deep respect for the natural world and believe in living in harmony with their environment. They are skilled farmers and hunters, and many of their customs and traditions revolve around the changing seasons and the cycles of nature.

Due to their isolation, the Ptas have developed a strong sense of community and family. They are fiercely protective of their loved ones and will go to great lengths to defend their homeland and their way of life. However, they are also wary of outsiders and tend to be suspicious of those who do not share their Lunumian heritage. As a result, the Ptas rarely venture outside of Lunumia and tend to keep to themselves.

Abilities and attributes:

Avians possess several unique abilities and attributes that set them apart from other races. Firstly, their large and powerful wings allow them to fly with incredible speed and agility, making them excellent scouts and messengers. In addition, their enhanced eyesight allows them to see great distances and focus more intently on objects and details than most other races.

While Avians do not possess any innate magical abilities, they are known to be particularly attuned to the divine. Many believe that their homeland of Lunumia, which is located on a remote mountain range, is the closest to the divine of any land in the world. As a result, Avians have a reputation for being devout and spiritually-minded individuals.

In terms of physical attributes, Avians tend to be lean and light, with hollow bones that aid in their flight. However, their wingspan and overall size can vary greatly depending on their specific bird lineage. Some Avians may have bird-like talons or beaks, while others may only have feathers or other subtle bird-like features.

Personality traits:

Those who are born and raised in Lunumia, their homeland, tend to have a wary attitude towards other races due to the history of Lunumia and the desire of other races to hunt for their powerful wings. However, this attitude may vary depending on the individual Pta's personal experiences and interactions with other races.

Avians are known for their resilience and intelligence, which enables them to adapt to different situations and overcome challenges. They have a strong connection to nature and participate in the circle of life, fighting for their territory and even hunting and eating other races if necessary.

Despite their defensive and survival-focused demeanour, Avians can be loyal and empathetic towards those they consider allies or friends. They have a sense of duty and responsibility towards their community and may prioritize the greater good over their personal interests.

Adventuring tendencies:

As a race with natural flight capabilities, Ptas are well-suited for roles that require mobility and aerial combat. They make excellent scouts and can quickly survey an area from above, providing valuable information to their party. Due to their enhanced senses, they are also well-suited for roles that require perception and awareness, such as tracking or detecting traps.

Ptas have a natural inclination towards the Ranger, Rogue, and Monk classes, which can take advantage of their agility, perception, and combat skills. They also make good spellcasters, particularly those that focus on nature or air magic.

In an adventuring party, Ptas tend to be loyal and dependable, although they may be wary of other races at first. They are known to take pride in their appearance, often spending time grooming and tending to their feathers. On the offensive side, they can be fierce in battle and are not afraid to take risks to protect their allies.
