ZIEWIEK

The Ziewiek, commonly known as humans, are the most populous race in Poia. Despite their reputation as "cockroaches," they are a hardy and resilient race, able to adapt to many different environments and situations. They possess the unique ability to fuse with the elements, allowing them to heal from injuries and illnesses using the power of the natural world.

Unlike other races who see themselves as animals in the ecosystem, humans acknowledge their role as stewards of the natural world. They view themselves as more integrated with the environment, and as such, have developed a deep respect for the natural order. Humans value innovation and progress, often using their ingenuity to solve problems and improve their quality of life. They are a fiercely independent race but also recognize the importance of cooperation and collaboration for the greater good.

Symbiosis: The Ziewiek, also known as humans, possess a unique ability called "symbiosis," which allows them to fuse with elements from nature to heal themselves. They view themselves as part of the ecosystem, rather than separate from it, and as a result, have a deep understanding and connection with the natural world. This connection allows them to utilize the resources around them in unique ways to heal their injuries and ailments. For example, if a human were to sustain a cut, they could apply dirt or mud to the wound to promote healing. In the case of a broken bone, they might use tree branches to create a makeshift splint to aid in the healing process. This ability to use nature in such a way has given humans a reputation for resilience and durability, leading other races to nickname them "cockroaches" due to their perceived ability to survive even in the harshest of environments.

  • Once per long rest, when a Ziewiek character takes damage, they can use their symbiosis ability to spend Hit Dice to heal themselves. They can spend up to half their total Hit Dice in this way.
  • When a Ziewiek character is reduced to 0 hit points, they can use their symbiosis ability to automatically stabilize themselves without needing to make death-saving throws. However, they cannot regain hit points until they receive magical healing or complete a long rest.
  • Once per long rest, a Ziewiek character can use their symbiosis ability to gain resistance to a specific type of damage for a short period of time (e.g. fire, cold, poison, etc.). The duration of this resistance increases with the character's level.

ZIEWIEK

Physical appearance:

The Ziewiek, also known as humans, have a diverse range of physical characteristics that can vary greatly depending on their ancestry and environment. While they are generally bipedal and stand upright, their features can be influenced by their symbiosis ability.

One notable aspect of the Ziewiek is their ability to heal themselves by merging with nature. However, they tend to cover their wounds with bandages or clothing, and older individuals may have visible scars from past symbiotic healing.

The Ziewiek have a range of eye and hair colours, which can be influenced by their symbiotic relationship with nature. Those with a strong affinity for fire may have red or orange-tinted hair, while those with a close bond to water may have blue or green eyes. However, these physical characteristics can also be influenced by other factors, such as genetics and individual variations.

Cultural characteristics:

The Ziewiek, despite being the most populous race in Poia, do not have a strong sense of loyalty to each other in the same way as other races with tribes, families, or clans. This is because they see themselves as part of the larger ecosystem and the structures they have built as simply another part of it.

Due to this perspective, Ziewiek culture tends to value sustainability, balance, and harmony with the natural world. They often incorporate elements of the environment into their art, music, and clothing. Their architecture blends into the natural surroundings, utilizing organic shapes and materials.

Ziewiek also values education and knowledge, seeing it as a way to better understand and work with the environment. They have developed sophisticated systems for tracking the movement of animals and weather patterns, as well as techniques for using plants and minerals in medicine and other applications.

Despite their lack of strong familial or tribal ties, Ziewiek does have a strong sense of community and cooperation. They often work together on large-scale projects, such as constructing irrigation systems or managing forests. They also have a reputation for being adaptable and resilient, able to thrive in a variety of environments and conditions.
