Known to most outsiders as Holdout, the rebuilt ruins of the ancient city are home to the venerable remnants of ancient nobility. As The Collapse grew worse, besieged armies led by the queen of Havvegg retreated to the now ruined city. Famously, Stahlvakt forces arrived from offshore or rallied from continental positions to join the Havvegg remnants to save their coastal holdout. They held until the tide of devils and undead retreated, but by this point Westport fell, needing to be recaptured during a later campaign, and the island of Stahlvakt was unable to serve as refuge for the foreign rulers (due to its limited access to food due to environment, see island notes) and quickly became independent, leaving Bastion to serve as the joint capital for the surviving royal houses, though they were all but spent.
