Many of the construction workers who built the manor vanished or turned up dead after its construction; those workers who vanished were specifically the ones that had worked on the Mansion's basement.
The plans for the building have been taken, lost, or destroyed, but you know enough to recreate a map of all the main floors and some of the basement.
