A cataclysmic event splits the northern and southern Terram, great devastation is felt in the north as the south raises 1000ft up from the sea. The area where the two sides meet is dubed the Great Rift. And the regions on each side is dubed Riftlands on the northern flatter area and The Crownlands on the raised southern area. The vast rift remaining in the land that splits norhern and southern Terram in two, the only way by land to cross this massive moat is by traveling the bridge-fortress known as Tollhold. The rift was rumored to be created by use of The Ruby Throne during the last years of the reign of the Terror Triarch
