Birdfolk

Birdfolk are known for their striking physical diversity. Their feathers come in an array of shades, patterns, and colors, allowing them to mimic various bird species. From the shadowy plumage of ravens to the vibrant colors of parrots, Birdfolk have a wide range of appearances. Each individual's feathers are unique, making them easily distinguishable from one another. Additionally, their beaks, which replace the traditional humanoid nose and mouth, can be as distinctive as human fingerprints, with varying shapes and sizes.

Flight Abilities:

One of the defining features of the Birdfolk race is their capacity for flight. However, the level of flight proficiency varies among individuals. Some Birdfolk are natural flyers, taking to the skies from birth with ease. Others may require training and practice to master the art of flying. The Aaracocra subrace, with talon-like hands on their wings, is especially known for their adeptness in the air. Meanwhile, the Owlin subrace boasts six limbs, including arms with hands and wings on their backs, offering a unique blend of versatility both in the air and on the ground. However, it's essential to note that the Kenku subrace is entirely flightless.

Habitats and Territories:

Birdfolk can be found in a wide range of terrains and ecosystems, much like other humanoid races. They have adapted to various environments, from the depths of dense forests to the frigid heights of towering mountains. However, the majority of Birdfolk on the continent of Terram have chosen to make their homes within the Rifthold Republic, where their values of unity and shared governance align with the Republic's societal structure. This diverse nation provides them with a thriving community that appreciates their unique abilities and values.

Subraces:

The Birdfolk race encompasses three distinct subraces, each with its own characteristics and traits:

  • Aaracocra: Aaracocra are large wings and sharp deterious talons. This subrace boasts a remarkable blend of aerial mobility and versatility, making them adept in both combat and other pursuits.
  • Kenku: Kenku, while part of the Birdfolk race, are flightless. Instead, they excel in other areas, particularly in their mimicry and adaptability. Kenku are known for their cunning and resourcefulness, often using their unique abilities to their advantage.
  • Owlin: Owlins are known for their exceptional eysight, capable of seeing great distances in darkness. Owlins feathers are light and silent,  often associated with grace and agility in the air.
