Lucent

The lamps that have appeared in Lonepeak are magical in nature they are often called Lucent Lamps, Lucent Lights or simply Lucent.

These magical lights have been placed along the streets and roads of Lonepeak by the Lamplighters on behalf of Jarl Trym Blackpaw. Not only does the lamps keep the dark nights of The Kingdom of Sorias endless winter at bay, but they also produce some heat that keep the streets free from snow.

Description

The Lucent Lamps is a intricately crafted lamp that emits a soft, steady light that never flickers or dims, providing continuous illumination in a 60-foot radius and dim light for an additional 60 feet. The lamp is made of polished brass with intricate runes etched along its base and frame. It is powered by an arcane crystal housed within glass panes at its core from which the light originate from.

The lamp is often placed on 10ft lampposts, hung from ceilings or from walls.

An external magical trigger seem to turn all the lights within Lonepeak on and off at the same time, often in a cascading fashion.

Some of the lamps malfunction or display its more sinister make by having the light flicker or glow slightly yellowish green.

Properties

  • The lamp emits bright light in a 60-foot radius and dim light for an additional 60 feet. The light is magical and can pierce through magical darkness.
  • The lamp's light does not require any fuel or maintenance. It will continue to shine indefinitely unless it is deactivated, destroyed or dispelled.
  • The lamp's secondary magical influence extends up to 120 feet. Within the lights range, the lamp's light has a subtle but profound psychological effect on creatures.

Secondary properties:
It seems like at times the lamps are able to summon celestial spirits made out of light to either defend the lamp or attack bypasses for some unknown sinister purpose.

When exposed to a the light of multiple or singular lamps over a prolonged time such as resting within the light or traveling over longer periods near them, the light effects creatures by inducing something called "Lucent marks" which seems to be a weak magical curse or disease. While nearly harmless at first, it grows worse by continued exposure as seen by the discovered symptoms detailed bellow.

Lucent Marks

The sinister side effects of the lamp, such as inducing the lucent marks and the associated psychological and physiological effects, are not revealed by the identify spell. These effects are hidden by warding magics and require more thorough investigation, such as through powerful divination magic or uncovering the lamp's true nature through direct observation and exposure.

Lucent Marks: Creatures within 120 feet of the lamp, over prolonged exposure, must succeed on a DC 21 Charisma saving throw or gain a mark of lucent. The effects increase in severity with the number of marks. A mark can be removed by Lesser Restoration and all marks can be removed by Greater Restoration

Here are the current discovered symptoms, you know theres atleast 8 levels:

  1. Mark: The creature is a bit afraid of the dark, they take 3d10 Necrotic damage and their maximum HP is reduced by the damage dealt.
  2. Marks: The creature gains the flaw "I'm afraid of the dark."
  3. Marks: The creature's darkvision is reduced by 60 feet.
  4. Marks: The creature becomes frightened in areas of dim light or darkness.
