Urbanum

The Land:

Urbanum, otherwise known as The Old Capital, lies between the Mamoru Mountains to the north and the Selka Mountains to the south. The city is built upon lush grasslands that once housed monstrous beasts, but the modernization of the area means it is now home to fields of crops and cattle that support the economy of the city.

The City:

The city barely gets by year to year, supported by export and self-sustainability as well as the magical institute that houses themselves here. The streets are muddy cobblestones, the nobles abandoned the city long ago and as such this has built in a sort of prideful nationalism within the citizens.

The People:

The people are a bitter folk who’s nobles and governmental leaders abandoned them long ago to seek prosperity in other lands. They sustain themselves on their food and spend most days working until the night descends into a deep darkness that lends itself to a breeding ground of criminal hijinks. They aren’t the most welcoming to outsiders but accept anyone with coin willing to spend. They also have a good relationship with the Vareth Institute who has recently been funding the city in a more meaningful manner and has taken more of a leadership role in the city. The institute has begun drawing scholars to the city more and more, increasing the growth of the economy which has made the citizens happier. Business owners welcome visitors with open arms, just happy to have customers. Natives who get nothing from visitors are more prone to bouts of bitter passive-aggressiveness, or not-so-passive aggressiveness.

The Government:

There is no real government to speak of in the city, however, the Vareth Institute has been responsible for all recent economic growth and employing the guardship that protects the city. The chancellor, Ray C. Ross takes pride in his work to restore the city and sees it as his duty to keep the knowledge in the institute safe by allowing the city to prosper.

Criminals:

The Void Community has targeted this city since its downfall and is rumored to have started here. There is no real headquarters for the organization that is currently known, but anyone who wants to avoid the Void Community knows to avoid this city as there is quite a bit of Void traffic through this city. The shadowy group aptly named for their anonymity has a stranglehold on many businesses in this city, extorting them for their income without the fear of being outed. No one truly knows why the associates or members of the Void community have never snitched, or given any semblance of reliable information to lawful parties. It's something that has puzzled the kingdoms for generations.

Trade:

The city proper has no real trade to speak of, however, the Vareth Institute has drawn in more and more people over the years and has even formed their own district in the city of arcanists who now reside within the city limits. This influx of citizens means that the businesses in the city have achieved a level of self-sustainability that no longer requires them to be as reliant on the kingdoms of the continent as they have been since the fall of the Remian Empire.
