Seelie Court

In the older editions, the Seelie and Unseelie Courts were the gatherings of powerful fey creatures. The Seelie Court was ruled by the faerie Queen Titania, not to be confused with Tiandra of the Summer Court, and they would travel throughout the various woodlands of the Beastlands, Arborea, and Ysgard. This traveling court made their home in woodland glades where they would hold feasts and conduct their business, often mortals might find them in their merriment. If a creature accepts food or drink from one of the faeries, their life is forfeit as they are now under the power of that fey forever.

The Seelie Court was the divine realm that was home to the pantheon of the same name.

Description

Wherever it was, the Court manifested as a calm woodland full of glades, either cloaked in eternal twilight or warmed by gentle sunlight.

The Seelie Court mimicked the appearance of nature. Trees formed columns and living ceilings, phosphorescent flowers bloomed where lanterns might be, and semi-precious jewels floated down waterways.

Cosmography

The Seelie Court wandered through the planes of Arborea, Ysgard, and the Beastlands according to Titania's whim. Time was known to flow differently within its borders.

Notable Locations

Verenestra was known to have her own bower in the Seelie Court, consisting of a grove of silver birch, larch, and willow trees all decorated with silver filigree.

Most of the inhabitants, however, lived in open-air conditions. There were no settlements.

Inhabitants

The Seelie Court's most notable inhabitants were the deities who lived there, particularly Queen Titania, the ruler of the pantheon, and King Oberon.

However, a number of other fey also dwelt in the realm. Beautiful but elitist, these courtiers thrived on politicking and gossip, with the court fey forming endless cliques and factions. They only admitted pure-blooded fey to their ranks, and, when dealing with outsiders, preferred those with fey, elven, or celestial blood.

Court

The Seelie Court is a not a permanent fixture anywhere. The chaotic faerie members of the Seelie Court wander not only the layer of the Beastlands but also Arborea, Ysgard and the Feywild. Wherever the Court resides, it manifests as a magical woodland, which shelters calm glades that sparkle with dew in the half-light.

The Seelie Court is ruled by Queen Titania. Her consort, Oberon is usually at her side. Other high-ups that sometimes travel with the Court include the powers of Dryads, Satyrs, Korred, Leprechauns, Unicorns, and other Sylvan creatures. While encountering any of these powers is very rare, (and most adventurers are thankful for that), the followers of these deities and other Sylvan creatures such as Treants, Swanmays, and Faerie Dragons are common in the bower.

The inhabitants live in the open air, in the trees, in thickets, or under toadstool-ringed hills. A person who finds themselves in the Court must be leery. The flow of time is not consistent in the Seelie Court. Glimpses of the past and future can be seen in reflective surfaces such as standing water or even a faerie lady’s shining earring.

It’s wise not to accept gifts of any type, (including food) when in the Court, as that may bind the receiver to the giver in fealty. The only boon the Court may provide without this risk is information. ‘Course, the fickle residents of the magical bower must first be convinced to reveal such information, and its veracity is by no means guaranteed.
