Rillor now lives below the city of Triboar in the tunnels his guild used to smuggle contraband into the city. He is a vampire now.
The owner of the Laughing Manticore is a dapper male Half-elf named Rillor Pain. The brewery and tavern is in fact a “cover” business. Everyone in town knows (or at least suspects) that Rillor is guildmaster of Triboar's Black Knives (the local thieves guild). Since his minions generally stay their hand against targets inside the city walls, and since those who openly criticize him tend to experience sudden misfortune, and since he enjoys the support of House Kaal, no one has yet confronted Rillor.
Rillor grew up poor in the city of Triboar. He found his way on the streets, doing whatever he needed to do to survive. Riducled for being a “half-breed”, Rillor was not accepted by either elves or humans and since he took after his human mother, decided to hide his elven heritage as he got older. He grew out his beard and kept his hair long enough to cover the tops of his ears.
A smooth talker, Rillor found he could spin a story to get out of sticky situations and get people to do what he wanted. He started gathering a following, other thieves and disreputable types and soon the Black Knives were born.
The Black Knives soon controlled all illegal trade in Triboar, and Rillor gained massive wealth and infamy. The activities of the guild gained the attention of Verrasa Kaal, a prominent noble of the city, but instead of shutting the guild down, Lady Kaal made a deal with Rillor.
In exchange for information, i.e. dirt on all the illicit activites of the other nobles in the city, Verrasa Kaal would not only keep the authorities from arresting Rillor, but also financed some of his other operations. Soon, the pair of them had favors owed to them from most of Triboar's wealthy and elite.
