Alalix Tressander was a great mage back in the early days when the Pact of Phandelver was still strong between the dwarves and humans. Little is known of him except a few lines mentioning his sacrifice in the The Lay of Phandelver.
It appears in the final defense he broke his awareness into two parts and became a Nothic named Ixal and a Spectator named Laxi. It was Bryllin Stoneheart who solved the riddle:
"What has two eyes, torn by Phandelver's strife?"
The question posed, a puzzle of life,
"Ixal and Laxi," came the swift reply,
Thus earned they a boon, 'neath the vaulted sky.
And so, the two parts were made as one and Wizard Alalix fired up the forge one last time to grant magical items to Chaotic Gold.
