There are largely two different kinds of dwarves you can find across the world, and though they look very different from each other. The most common kind of dwarf you can find are known as "Hill Dwarves", while the rarer subset are known as "Mountain Dwarves". It's been centuries after these exonyms were coined, one might assume that the names have to do with the areas they live.
Instead, the names corresponde to the physical appearance of the dwarf they describe. A hill dwarf is like that of a normal humanoid, except of a more stout and squat build. Normal flesh and hair, with promenent beards even across genders. Though the flesh of a hill dwarf is much more resilient, visually repairing itself if the dwarf wants to heal, pushing out any blades, arrowheads, or even tattoo ink. Their skin is malleable but still resilient, like that of the dirt on a hill.
Similarly, a mountain dwarf is stout and squat, and has tough "flesh". The difference is that their "flesh" is more like the stone of a mountain. Their skin tends to be shades of grey or oranges, like the stones they quarry. Instead of hair on their head, they can choose to grow crystals of different colours, and completely unlike their hill brethren, they lack any facial hair whatsoever.
