The middle layer of the ocean, where light of the sun only reaches in the faintest glow and the cold and the pressure slowly start to creep in.
Gloomwaters Born: you are raised at a depth where there is faint occasional light, but not much. You know of the drybreathers from your interactions with those from the Brightwaters, but have likely not met them yourselves. You also deal frequently with those from the Inkwaters. You are able to speak Lautan (ocean-common) and are able to cobble together a few phrases in both Primordial and Surface Common. You are probably able to read and write the most basic of phrases and sentences in those languages and any additional that you know, though likely rarely used. Your coloration can be brighter or darker, and are occasionally mildly bioluminescent. If so, you are likely darker in coloration. Many of your kind are nomadic, traveling daily with the currents or moving with the creatures that are you companions instead of staying in one place, but there are some villages and cities and some clusters of shelters to help house those passing through. You have standard Darkvison (60 ft) unless a racial or class ability gives you better. You are technically not Amphibious (able to breathe water and air) but are able to exist in dry air for a few hours with only minor discomfort. Beyond that you will require magical or mechanical assistance to survive out of the water, or you will begin to suffocate.
