SEASON ONE - Welcome to Dawngrove
INT. Buffy's, DAWNGROVE - Morning
Unknown
and
Unknown
have been called by Dr. Adela Sigrid of
The Foundation, who has called upon them to retrieve an anomaly that has escaped. The anomaly is known to be placid and somber, and left with only her personal belongings, a rosary and bible. Due to the surrounding area and town members, the foundation felt it best to hire local help. They have a week to complete the job.
Dr. Sigrid tells them that they are searching for a humanoid with a bottom half that resembles a reindeer, as well as antlers, and flowers in her hair. She is able to revert artificial items and buildings back to their original state. She is not willing to tell them anything else.
Unknown
arrives in Dawngrove, showing up at her mother's house. The two have a brief
conversation, Sarah explaining her situation and
Deborah West
agreeing that Sarah can stay at her house for the time being. Deborah tells her that her half sister, Unknown, is at work right now at Buffy's Diner. Sarah heads there to go meet her. When Sarah arrives at the diner, she proceeds to confuse and frighten Lyla, as well as greet Eve and Theo, as she's met them before.
Unknown
has arrived in Dawngrove earlier this morning for Samhain, and investigates the cemetery
of one of the churches. Upon a grave labeled Francis Wojcienchowski,
Bailey finds a chickadee feather.
Eve and Theo set out to find the anomaly. They go to the local church first to investigate. They run into Bailey here, and begin to investigate with her. According to the very nervous Priest, the church is under renovation and they must leave. Theo distracts Father Reeves by asking for confession, while Eve and Bailey snoop around the church. They find plant growth and hoof tracks, confirming she was here.
Meanwhile, Sarah and Lyla chat about why Sarah is here and the whole "I'm your half sister" thing. The two decide to get to eachother better by hanging out at the arcade and playing some games. As Lyla is driving them there, they witness a certain cervitaur bound in front of their car towards the woods.
Lyla shoots a text to Theo about it, and she and the gang head over.
The squad follow the direction they saw the cervitaur run, and using their sick detective skills, figure out which direction she ran into the forest. However, it seems they're not the only ones tracking the anomaly down. Local monster hunters and Game Wardens Matthew Shaw and Duke Quintieri seem to also be on her tail. The crew has a conversation with them about what they're doing, and decide to let the game wardens enter the forest first before trying to track down their target.
They find two trails, one most likely made by the monster hunters who want to kill the anomaly, and one possibly made by said anomaly. The team splits up.
Bailey and Sarah manage to track the cervitaur down to an old, overgrown cabin. They attempt to relay this information to the other three, but the cell service in the forest is poor. Bailey decides to enter the cabin alone, only to find that their target is a young girl who is indeed a very scared cervitaur. Her name is Meridiana Wojcienchowski, and she explains to Bailey how she's been living in The Foundation since she was a young child with relatively poor care, despite not doing anything bad. Bailey immediately sympathizes, and decides immediately that no one is going to be turning her back in to The Foundation. She decides the best way to get Meri out is by getting her a glamour that can make her look human and going from there.
Bailey and Lyla leave Meri at the cabin to go find a witch. The two end up at The Gateway, and are met by Ruth Prynoski who turns out to be a witch. As she leads them into a space that definitely should not fit in the building, Lyla's mind implodes at the realization that her town is probably much more magical than she thought it was.
Eventually the two manage to bring Ruth back to the cabin, and the three begin a spell to quickly create the glamour needed. After this is finished, Lyla and Meri leave to go rest at Lyla's mom's house, while Bailey goes to meet up with the rest of the party.
While all of this has been happening, things get tense with the other half of the party. They realize they're being stalked just a little too late, and are greeted by Duke and Matthew. They have a tense conversation. Were-forms are activated, bullets are shot, and ancient heirlooms are drawn. At some point Sarah springs from the trees and begins to scuffle with Matthew monster style. However, they reach the conclusion that Meridiana is harmless, and Duke informs them that they're only looking out for the well being of the town.
After finally receiving a text from Lyla that they've found Meridiana but learning she's harmless, the three of them head back to town. However, Theo keeps the information that they're sparing Meridiana from Eve, afraid that Eve won't like this decision and take matters into her own hands.
In the meantime, Matthew and Duke help patch up those that were injured in the conflict. After some chatting, the husbands head off, and leave the three to their own. While the three of them wait for Bailey to meet up with them, Sarah teaches the other two how to forage for mushrooms.
“Ever seen a slug? I’ve seen a couple.”
- Theo
Eventually Bailey returns, and the party says their goodbyes for the day.
While driving home, Lyla asks Meri if she wants to get milkshakes.
Meri excitedly says yes.
They arrive at the Buffy's Diner, and Sarah meets them there. As Meridiana happily drinks her milkshake and eats a salad, the half-sisters quietly discuss what to do with Meri.
Sarah argues that Meridiana is a monster, one that tends to destroy any technology and grow plants wherever she stays, and should probably not be living somewhere that isn't with their sick mom. Permanent housing for her should be a priority. Sarah reluctantly agrees, and says they can figure it out tomorrow.
After their meal, Lyla drives Sarah and Meri back to her mom's house.
The party settles down for the night, each of them performing their nightly rituals.
Theo spends her time diving, but only ends up with the haunting message "The Scarlet King lies in wait." .
Evelyn falls asleep quickly in order to talk to her deity, Fymir. Fymir warns Eve that her companions are lying to her, and she should probably confront them. When Eve expresses her desire to ditch them after this, Fymir informs her that unfortunately for her, that won't be possible as the threads of Eve's destiny are firmly tied with the rest of the party, meaning even if she left, she'd end up with them again.
Sarah, Lyla, and Meridiana decide to stay up late watching movies Meridiana has never seen. Then, Sarah goes to sleep in the guest bedroom, and Lyla offers to let Meri sleep in her bed, which she gratefully accepts.
Bailey goes back to her friend
Unknown's house, where she's staying for the week. The two have an awkward
conversation in an attempt to catch up, but talk for a couple hours before
Bailey heads to bed.
